South African superstar Tyla added another major achievement to her rapidly growing résumé, taking home two awards from four nominations at the 2026 American Music Awards (AMAs).

The singer entered the night with nominations for Best Afrobeats Artist, Best Female R&B Artist, Best Music Video, and Social Song of the Year for her hit single “Chanel.” The four nominations made her the most-nominated African artist in AMA history.  

By the end of the ceremony, Tyla emerged as one of the night’s winners, claiming the Best Afrobeats Artist award while “Chanel” secured Social Song of the Year, giving the South African star two victories from her four nominations.  

The wins continue what has been a remarkable run for the artist. Over the past two years, Tyla has evolved from a breakout African star into a global force, collecting major accolades, chart success, and international recognition while helping introduce a new generation of listeners to African pop music. Her crossover appeal has been driven by a blend of Amapiano, Afropop, R&B, and mainstream pop influences that have resonated with audiences worldwide.  

“Chanel” has played a significant role in that success. The single became one of Tyla’s biggest international records, earning nominations across multiple categories and further solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most commercially successful exports.  

The American Music Awards victory arrives just months after Tyla secured her second Grammy Award, further reinforcing her position among the most influential African artists of her generation.
