Veteran actress Nia Long has joined the cast of Get Lite, the upcoming Paramount dance drama marking Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut. The casting announcement adds another established name to a film featuring a mix of experienced performers and emerging talent.

The film stars Storm Reid and Ceyair Wright, who plays a talented but sheltered dance student whose life changes after he discovers New York City’s subway dance scene. Through the underground culture, he finds inspiration, love and an unexpected sense of family, while Reid plays a young woman who introduces him to new possibilities.

Long’s role has not yet been disclosed. Her casting also reunites her with Reid, following their appearance together in the 2023 thriller Missing.

Taylor is directing from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, based on an original script by Eric Gross that appeared on the Black List in 2020. The supporting cast includes Leslie Odom Jr., Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jodie Turner-Smith, Asante Blackk and Woody McClain. Production is underway in New York City.

For Taylor, Get Lite represents a new chapter in a career spanning music, choreography, performance and acting. Long, meanwhile, continues to build on a filmography that includes Love Jones, The Best Man and Soul Food, alongside her recent portrayal of Katherine Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic Michael.

Get Lite is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on August 20, 2027.
