Harry Kane has won the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English footballer in 25 years to claim the prestigious individual award.
The Bayern Munich striker was announced as the winner at the 70th edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday, October 26, at the London Palladium in England. He finished ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, who placed second, and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who finished third.
Kane’s victory follows an outstanding 2025–26 campaign in which he scored 73 goals for club and country. His performances helped Bayern Munich retain the Bundesliga title and secure a domestic treble, while his goalscoring consistency established him as one of the standout players of the season.
The England captain scored 61 goals for Bayern and added 12 for his national team. He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer for the third consecutive season and netted 14 times in the UEFA Champions League as Bayern reached the semi-finals.
The award makes Kane only the fifth Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or, joining an exclusive group that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. Owen was the last English recipient, winning the award in 2001 after an impressive year with Liverpool.
Kane also collected the Gerd Müller Trophy for Men’s Striker of the Year, adding another individual honour to a season defined by his goalscoring output.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kane credited his teammates, coaches and family for helping him reach the milestone, describing the campaign as the best season of his career.
The 2026 ceremony marked the first time the Ballon d’Or awards were held in London, with the event celebrating the prize’s 70th anniversary. Other winners included Alexia Putellas, who claimed the Women’s Ballon d’Or, while Yamal won the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente received the Men’s Coach of the Year honour.
For Kane, the win represents the defining individual achievement of a career that has seen him become England’s captain, Bayern Munich’s leading attacking figure and one of football’s most prolific forwards. After years of elite performances, he now joins the sport’s most exclusive list of Ballon d’Or winners.
