Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the future of the Black Panther franchise, announcing that British actor David Jonsson has been cast as the adult T’Challa II in Black Panther 3. The reveal was made during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where director Ryan Coogler introduced Jonsson as the next heir to Wakanda’s legendary mantle.
Jonsson will portray the grown-up version of T’Challa II, also known as Toussaint, the son of the late King T’Challa and Nakia. The character was first introduced as a young boy in the emotional post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), setting the stage for the next generation of Wakanda’s royal family. Rather than recasting the late Chadwick Boseman’s iconic T’Challa, Marvel has chosen to continue his legacy through his son, a decision that honors Boseman’s impact while opening a new chapter for the franchise.
According to Coogler, Black Panther 3 will center on T’Challa II’s coming-of-age journey as he prepares to embrace his destiny and stake his claim to the Wakandan throne. The story is expected to explore themes of legacy, identity, leadership, and the weight of carrying one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most iconic mantles.
