AFRICA HALL OF FAME

Guardians of African Excellence: The African Hall of Fame, as the custodian of history, celebrates impactful individuals who have left an indelible mark on the African continent, meticulously chronicling their groundbreaking achievements across borders.

A new infrastructure investment platform majority owned by black women has been launched in South Africa, with an initial asset base of 1 billion rand ($56 million).

The Motseng Ideas Infrastructure Group (MIIG) is a joint venture between Motseng Investment Holdings and African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) via its IDEAS Fund. The company is 67% black-owned, with women holding 57% of the shares.

MIIG will prioritize public-private partnership projects, with a focus on sectors such as healthcare, social infrastructure, and government facilities. Its operations will span South Africa as well as countries across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

“With a clear focus on infrastructure that delivers tangible social and economic benefits, MIIG’s mission is to invest in, develop, and manage assets that directly uplift communities and promote inclusive growth,” the company said in a statement. The group also highlighted plans to attract additional investors while working with governments, businesses, and local stakeholders. Its leadership team brings more than four decades of combined experience in the infrastructure space.

Meeting Rising Infrastructure Needs

South Africa faces a massive infrastructure funding gap. The World Bank estimates that between 2022 and 2030, the country will need to allocate between 4.8 trillion and 6.2 trillion rand ($254bn–$329bn) to transport, education, water, and sanitation in order to align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This equates to an average of 8.7% to 11.2% of GDP annually.

Ipeleng Mkhari, CEO of Motseng, said MIIG represents more than a commercial initiative: “It reflects our commitment to empowerment-led development that not only addresses infrastructure needs but also advances black and black women ownership in the sector.”

Vuyo Ntoi, co-managing director at AIIM, added that MIIG brings together strong empowerment credentials with the financial strength and execution track record needed to deliver sustainable, high-impact projects. “This platform will generate solid investment returns while also supporting long-term socio-economic transformation,” he said.
