Google has acquired a data centre site in southeast Wyoming from AI infrastructure company Crusoe, strengthening its push to expand computing capacity for artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made on November 6, 2026, just one day after Google revealed plans to invest $17 billion in developing its first data centre in Wyoming.<\/p>\n
According to Crusoe, the acquisition marks the completion of its involvement in the project\u2019s pre-development phase, which included selecting the site, securing government approvals and developing an energy strategy in partnership with Tallgrass Energy. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.<\/p>\n
The project was initially developed jointly by Crusoe and Tallgrass Energy, with plans for a large-scale campus designed to support the growing computing demands of AI systems.<\/p>\n
Google will now take the project forward alongside Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital.<\/p>\n
The planned infrastructure will rely on a combination of power sources, including fuel cells, grid electricity and natural gas turbines. The arrangement is designed to provide the reliable energy supply required to operate large AI data centres.<\/p>\n
Crusoe CEO and co-founder Chase Lochmiller said the company\u2019s pre-construction work had positioned the project for construction and eventual operation. He also revealed that Crusoe currently has more than six gigawatts of contracted capacity and over 40 gigawatts in its development pipeline.<\/p>\n
The transaction is part of a wider expansion of Google\u2019s AI infrastructure as competition intensifies among major technology companies to secure the computing resources needed to develop and operate increasingly advanced AI models.<\/p>\n
The acquisition also highlights Crusoe\u2019s growing relationship with Google. The infrastructure company is separately developing another Google data centre campus in Armstrong County, Texas, announced in September.<\/p>\n
