Rick Ross is no longer facing a felony charge in his ongoing domestic violence case after prosecutors in Miami-Dade County dropped the battery-by-strangulation charge, citing insufficient evidence.<\/p>\n
The decision was filed on Thursday, October 29, with the development becoming public following a court appearance by the rapper\u2019s attorney on Friday, October 30. Ross will, however, continue to face a misdemeanor domestic violence battery charge.<\/p>\n
The charges stem from an alleged incident at Ross\u2019 Star Island residence in Miami Beach on August 28. According to the police report, a woman who was living with the rapper accused him of striking her several times, choking her using the collar of her clothing and pushing her against a wall following an argument.<\/p>\n
The woman reportedly filed a police report on September 29, leading to Ross surrendering to authorities on October 1. He was subsequently released on bail. These allegations have not been established in court.<\/p>\n
Following the latest development, Ross\u2019 attorney, Bradley Horenstein, welcomed the decision to drop the felony count, while maintaining that the rapper would continue to contest the remaining allegations.<\/p>\n
Ross has pleaded not guilty and has denied wrongdoing. His legal team has maintained his innocence as the case proceeds.<\/p>\n
Although the dropped charge removes the more serious felony allegation from the case, the remaining misdemeanor charge means the legal matter is far from over. The misdemeanor domestic violence battery case will continue through the Miami-Dade County court system.<\/p>\n
The development adds another legal chapter to the career of the Miami rapper, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II. Ross rose to prominence with his 2006 hit \u201cHustlin\u2019\u201d and went on to establish Maybach Music Group, helping launch the careers of artists including Meek Mill and Wale.<\/p>\n
His latest album, Set In Stone, was released in July 2026.<\/p>\n
