The announcement signals a major return for the grime pioneer, who has continued to explore different sounds and collaborate with artists across hip-hop and electronic music.

In announcing the album, Skepta said he had poured his heart into the project, explaining that he wanted to create music that balances meaningful subject matter with high-energy production. He also reflected on the pressure artists face in an industry increasingly shaped by algorithms and the demand for constant online content.

Exploring Identity and Nigerian-British Heritage

At the heart of The Fork and Knife is Skepta’s experience as a British artist and the son of Nigerian immigrants. The album explores identity, diaspora and what it means to exist between cultures, presenting those experiences as sources of strength and creative inspiration.

Musically, the project draws from grime, UK garage, jungle, house and rave culture, reflecting Skepta’s long-standing connection to British underground music. Its visual direction also draws inspiration from 1980s Nigerian-British imagery, football culture and documentary-style realism, connecting the history of the Windrush generation with contemporary London.

Singles Set the Stage for the Album

One of the album’s lead-up releases is “Innocent Smile,” featuring British electronic duo Chase & Status and Madness frontman Suggs. Released in September, the track combines Skepta’s rap delivery with electronic and club influences.

Another track, “Gas Me Up (Diligent),” originally released in 2024, is also included on the upcoming album. Skepta previewed additional material during his performance at Reading Festival in August, offering fans an early glimpse of the project.

Although Skepta has remained active through collaboration and other projects, The Fork and Knife represents his return to a full-length solo album following Ignorance Is Bliss. The extended wait has raised expectations for a project that brings together his grime roots, electronic influences and reflections on his personal background.

With its November 6 release date approaching, The Fork and Knife is shaping up to be a deeply personal statement from one of UK rap’s most influential figures.

British-Nigerian rapper Skepta is set to release his highly anticipated new album, The Fork and Knife, on November 6, 2026, marking his first solo studio album in seven years.
