Lionel Richie has been hospitalized for the third time in three months after experiencing another heart-related health issue, prompting the legendary singer to temporarily step away from his ongoing tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.<\/p>\n
Richie, 77, was hospitalized this week for treatment of atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular heart rhythm. His representative confirmed that the singer underwent a procedure to treat the condition and said it went successfully.<\/p>\n
\u201cLionel underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib). The doctor said everything went perfectly,\u201d his representative told PEOPLE. \u201cLionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
The latest hospitalization has resulted in the cancellation of the next three dates on Richie\u2019s \u201cSing a Song All Night Long\u201d tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The affected performances were scheduled for September 26 in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago and October 2 in Columbus, Ohio.<\/p>\n
Third Hospitalization Since June<\/p>\n
The latest incident follows two other health-related interruptions during Richie\u2019s current touring schedule.<\/p>\n
In June, Richie was taken to a hospital by ambulance after feeling dizzy and unwell during a performance in St. Paul, Minnesota. He cut the concert short and subsequently postponed two shows while recovering.<\/p>\n
He later returned to the stage and reassured fans that he was doing well.<\/p>\n
Then, following an August 29 concert in St. Louis, Richie checked himself into a hospital and spent several days in intensive care while undergoing cardiac testing. He was eventually released and returned to performing.<\/p>\n
Now, following the latest AFib procedure, Richie is taking another break from the road.<\/p>\n
Richie Expected Back on Stage<\/p>\n
Despite the latest hospitalization, Richie\u2019s representative says the singer is doing well and intends to return to performing after taking some time to recover.<\/p>\n
The cancellations come as Richie continues his extensive touring schedule with Earth, Wind & Fire. He also has upcoming \u201cKing of Hearts\u201d performances scheduled in Las Vegas later this year, although his latest health situation could affect those plans.<\/p>\n
For now, fans are being asked to give the music icon time to recover as he steps away from the stage following his third hospitalization in three months.<\/p>\n
