Cole Cancels Sacramento Show After Touring Crew Member Dies in Highway Crash

J. Cole has canceled his scheduled Sacramento concert following the tragic death of a member of his touring crew in a highway crash.

The rapper was due to perform at Golden 1 Center on August 27, 2026, as part of his The Fall-Off World Tour. The concert was called off just hours before it was scheduled to begin after a crew member transporting equipment for the tour died in a crash on Interstate 5 in California.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig carrying equipment for J. Cole’s tour overturned on southbound Interstate 5 in Yolo County, near Zamora and Woodland, early Thursday morning.

The truck had been transporting equipment from Cole’s previous concert in Seattle, where the rapper performed on August 25, to Sacramento for the next tour stop.

The driver, identified as 66-year-old Jarlath “Chip” Parkinson of Jackson, South Carolina, was the truck’s sole occupant and died in the crash. Authorities said the truck drifted onto the right shoulder before the driver attempted to return to the freeway, lost control and overturned.

The precise cause of the crash remains under investigation. A California Highway Patrol spokesperson said investigators were considering possibilities including distraction or fatigue.

Golden 1 Center announced that the show had been canceled following the death.

The venue and Live Nation expressed their condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones, while Dreamville also confirmed the cancellation.

The cancellation meant that fans who had been preparing to see Cole perform in Sacramento were turned away on the night of the concert.

Ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster were told that refunds would be issued automatically. Fans who purchased through other outlets were instructed to seek refunds through their original point of purchase.

There has been no announcement that the Sacramento concert will be rescheduled.

The cancellation comes during J. Cole’s extensive The Fall-Off World Tour, supporting his seventh studio album, The Fall-Off.

Despite the Sacramento cancellation, his subsequent California dates have remained scheduled. Cole is set to perform at Oakland Arena on August 29 and 30, with additional shows in Los Angeles and Inglewood in early September.

The tour is expected to continue internationally later in the year, with the final show currently scheduled for December 12 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The incident highlights the risks involved in the enormous logistical operation behind major concert tours.

While audiences primarily see the artist and the stage, large tours depend on teams of drivers, stagehands, technicians, production staff and other crew members who transport equipment between cities, often overnight and across long distances.

In this case, the equipment truck was traveling between Seattle and Sacramento when the fatal accident

News of the crew member’s death prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, many of whom learned about the cancellation only hours before the Sacramento show.

The focus for Cole and his touring team has now shifted from the performance schedule to mourning the loss and supporting the victim’s family.

J. Cole’s decision to cancel the Sacramento performance underscores the seriousness of the tragedy and the human cost behind the machinery of a major concert tour.

J.
