The plea was entered at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, where Brown admitted to using or threatening unlawful violence during the incident.

The case stems from an incident at Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district in February 2023. Prosecutors alleged that Brown attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a glass bottle before continuing the assault as the victim attempted to flee through the crowded venue. Authorities described the attack as “vicious and unprovoked,” saying it left Diaw with head and knee injuries that required hospital treatment.

Brown appeared in court alongside his vocal coach and co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, who likewise pleaded guilty to affray. Both men admitted their conduct would have caused a reasonable person to fear for their safety, satisfying the legal definition of the offense under UK law.

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors confirmed they would no longer pursue the more serious charges against Brown, including attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon. The decision means Brown has avoided a lengthy jury trial that had been scheduled for later this year.

The singer was originally arrested in May 2025 after arriving in the United Kingdom for his Breezy Bowl XX Tour. He was initially denied bail before later securing his release after agreeing to a £5 million security payment, allowing him to continue the tour while legal proceedings remained ongoing.

Following Friday’s hearing, Brown briefly acknowledged supporters gathered outside the courthouse before leaving. The court hearing lasted only a few minutes, with sentencing now scheduled for October 26, 2026. Under UK law, the offense of affray carries a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment, although the final penalty will be determined by the court after considering all relevant circumstances.

The guilty plea marks the latest chapter in a career that has frequently been overshadowed by legal issues despite Brown’s continued commercial success. While he remains one of the world’s most successful R&B performers with multiple Grammy Awards, chart-topping albums, and sold-out arena tours, his legal troubles have continued to attract significant public attention throughout his career.

With the case now moving to the sentencing phase, Brown will return to Southwark Crown Court in October, where a judge will determine the appropriate punishment. The plea brings an end to the criminal proceedings over the nightclub incident, though the sentencing hearing will ultimately decide the legal consequences of Brown’s admitted role in the altercation.

Grammy-winning R&B star Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in connection with a violent altercation at a London nightclub, bringing a major development in a criminal case that has been ongoing for more than three years.
