The institution, established in Nigeria, aims to drastically reduce the billions of dollars Africans spend each year training pilots and aviation professionals abroad.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"1338\">For decades, aspiring pilots and aircraft engineers from Africa have had to travel to flight schools in <strong data-start=\"1035\" data-end=\"1084\">Europe, the United States, or the Middle East<\/strong>, often at enormous personal or government expense.<br data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1138\" \/>Training a commercial pilot overseas can cost between <strong data-start=\"1192\" data-end=\"1216\">$30,000 and $130,000<\/strong>, depending on the certification level and destination \u2014 a financial burden that has kept many talented Africans grounded.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1554\">The creation of IBUAM represents a bold step toward <strong data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1434\">self-sufficiency in aviation education<\/strong>, offering world-class facilities, certified instructors, and internationally recognized programs \u2014 all based in Africa.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1559\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1561\" data-end=\"1613\"><strong data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1613\">A Bold Vision to Transform Aviation Training<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1896\">Speaking at the world press conference in Abuja on <strong data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1686\">October 17, 2025<\/strong>, IBUAM founder <strong data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1718\">Isaac Balami<\/strong>, a well-known Nigerian aviation entrepreneur and aircraft engineer, said the university\u2019s mission is to make aviation education more affordable and accessible to young Africans.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1898\" data-end=\"2194\">\n<p data-start=\"1900\" data-end=\"2194\">\u201cI know firsthand the pain of chasing a dream you can\u2019t afford,\u201d Balami said. \u201cMy parents sold our family property to cover part of my tuition. When I passed my screening, the governor of Borno State stepped in to pay the rest. That single act changed my life \u2014 and now, I\u2019m paying it forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2392\">Balami explained that the school\u2019s creation is not only a personal milestone but a <strong data-start=\"2279\" data-end=\"2302\">continental project<\/strong> aimed at empowering youth and ending Africa\u2019s dependency on foreign aviation academies.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2394\" data-end=\"2565\">\n<p data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2565\">\u201cFor decades, we\u2019ve sent our best minds abroad to study \u2014 now we\u2019re Commission (NDDC)<\/strong>, both of which have pledged funding and scholarships for deserving students.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2848\" data-end=\"3089\">Balami revealed that the NDDC has already <strong data-start=\"2890\" data-end=\"2943\">constructed accommodation and training facilities<\/strong> capable of housing <strong data-start=\"2963\" data-end=\"2986\">over 1,000 students<\/strong> from the <strong data-start=\"2996\" data-end=\"3021\">11 Niger Delta states<\/strong>, with the commission set to cover tuition for qualified candidates.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3091\" data-end=\"3262\">\n<p data-start=\"3093\" data-end=\"3262\">\u201cIf you have the talent and the passion but lack the resources, we\u2019ll find a way to support you,\u201d Balami said. \u201cThat\u2019s how we build a truly inclusive aviation industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3264\" data-end=\"3462\">The university plans to enroll its first batch of students in maintenance, and investment \u2014 that will make Africa a global aviation hub,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4538\" data-end=\"4720\">Keyamo also confirmed that Nigeria will soon <strong data-start=\"4583\" data-end=\"4646\">receive its first dry-leased aircraft in nearly two decades<\/strong>, a signal of renewed investor confidence in the nation\u2019s aviation annually<\/strong> on aviation training abroad, particularly in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.<br data-start=\"4976\" data-end=\"4979\" \/>With IBUAM\u2019s launch, a significant portion of that spending could now remain within the continent, generating local jobs and stimulating related industries like tourism, manufacturing, and logistics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5180\" data-end=\"5342\">According to aviation consultant <strong data-start=\"5213\" data-end=\"5237\">Dr. Tolulope Adegoke<\/strong>, the university\u2019s establishment could mark the beginning of a \u201creverse brain drain\u201d in African aviation.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"5344\" data-end=\"5574\">\n<p data-start=\"5346\" data-end=\"5574\">\u201cFor too long, our pilots, engineers, and technicians have been trained overseas and often don\u2019t return,\u201d Adegoke said. \u201cThis institution keeps talent on the continent and builds a sustainable pipeline of skilled
