Moliy’s global hit “Shake It to the Max (Fly)” especially the remix featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng was ruled ineligible for the 2026 Grammys in both the Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance categories.

The Recording Academy’s explanation: the version submitted was classed as a remix, and under Grammy rules, remixes are not eligible for those two categories.

  • Even though Moliy’s remix included substantial new composition new verses from the guest artists, a revised intro the Academy stuck to its rulebook.

  • The label gamma. appealed, noting that nearly 50% of the remix is entirely new, and that disqualification based on the “remix” label felt like a technicality that ignored the artistic merit.

  • According to the Academy, this wasn’t a subjective rejection: it was strictly a procedural ineligibility based on how the song was submitted.

This has sparked frustration: for many, it’s not just about Moliy missing a Grammy nod, it’s a wider issue about how Grammy rules may not always reflect how global genres and collaborative music are made today.

Moliy’s team and supporters argue that the decision undermines the song’s cultural impact, calling for more flexible and inclusive submission guidelines in the future.
