Nigerian singer Simi has opened up about the struggles she faced behind her new song “Where You Dey”, revealing that the creative process was far more challenging than fans might have expected. In a heartfelt post shared on X, she explained that she originally planned to release the song last year but was unable to complete it on schedule due to significant health issues that left her feeling weak, nauseous and exhausted, making even recording difficult. During that period she said everything felt like “a blur,” and she struggled to keep up with the energy required to finish the track.

Despite these obstacles, Simi was determined to bring the song to life, and she knew she wanted fellow Nigerian artist Chike on the track. She spoke highly of his contribution, noting that he dropped everything to record his verse as soon as he returned to town, and praised his professionalism and vocal talent. What fans might not have realised at the time was that Simi was battling her health challenges throughout the recording, and watching footage back now she can hardly believe where the energy came from.

Simi also touched on the technical struggles she faced after the vocals were laid down, admitting that she found mixing and mastering difficult so much so that she ultimately took on the task herself, even though she doesn’t enjoy the process. That creative control came at a cost, and she said it was disappointing not to meet the original deadline fans had anticipated. At times she didn’t even have the physical energy to promote the song or create accompanying content.

Through her explanation, Simi made it clear that “Where You Dey” was crafted with love and resilience, and she hopes listeners embrace the track with the kind of energy she wished she could have given it personally. She also used the moment to address critics who have suggested she slowed down her artistic career because of marriage, pointing to the effort and dedication that went into completing this song as evidence of her continued commitment to her craft.

The song,  a soulful collaboration with Chike that blends emotional vocals and melodic storytelling has already caught the attention of fans and critics alike for its heartfelt vibe and quality production.
