Nigerian artificial intelligence researcher Chinasa T. Okolo has joined the World Bank to help drive initiatives that use artificial intelligence to support socioeconomic development.

Okolo, widely recognized for her work in responsible AI and emerging technologies, will contribute to projects aimed at applying artificial intelligence to challenges such as economic growth, digital transformation, and public service delivery in developing countries.

Her appointment highlights the increasing role of advanced technologies in global development strategies. At the World Bank, Okolo is expected to focus on how AI can be used ethically and effectively to improve areas such as healthcare systems, education access, financial inclusion, and government services.

The move also underscores the growing global influence of African researchers in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence field. Okolo has previously advocated for the responsible use of AI technologies to ensure they benefit communities across the Global South.
