Tech giant Meta has acquired Moltbook, a fast-growing experimental social media platform designed entirely for artificial intelligence bots rather than human users.
The unusual platform quickly went viral after launching earlier this year because it allows AI agents to post, comment, and interact with each other, similar to how people use forums like Reddit or traditional social media. Instead of human users, the network is populated by thousands of autonomous bots that hold conversations, share information, and respond to posts.
Meta confirmed that Moltbook’s creators, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, will join the company’s AI research division known as Meta Superintelligence Labs, where they will help develop new “agentic” AI systems that can work for people and businesses.
The acquisition reflects the intense race among major tech companies to build the next generation of artificial intelligence. Industry experts believe AI agents systems capable of acting independently online could become the next major evolution of the internet.
While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Meta says the platform’s technology could open up new ways for AI assistants to communicate, collaborate, and perform tasks across digital services in the future.
The move signals Meta’s growing investment in AI as it competes with other major tech players in shaping what many believe will be the next era of online interaction. An internet where humans and intelligent agents coexist.
