Ed Sheeran‘s “Love Song” is still making history.
Nearly a decade after its release, his timeless ballad ‘Thinking Out Loud’ has officially surpassed 3 billion streams on Spotify, marking his fourth song to reach the milestone.
Originally written as a love letter inspired by his then-girlfriend, the track was crafted with the intention of becoming a modern wedding anthem, and it delivered.
The song’s legacy hasn’t been without its challenges. It was at the center of a highly publicized copyright lawsuit alleging similarities to Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’.
After extensive testimony from musicologists, Sheeran ultimately won the case.
At the 2016 Grammy Awards , the single earned Sheeran two of the night’s biggest honors: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
