Fireboy DML and Asake have crossed a huge threshold in the U.S. music market: their hit single “Bandana” is now officially certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
This means the song has surpassed 500,000 equivalent units in the U.S., combining streaming and sales, a clear indicator that Afrobeats continues to make serious waves globally.
For Fireboy, this certification marks his second gold plaque in the U.S., building on his earlier international success with tracks like “Peru.” For Asake, it’s an even more meaningful achievement: “Bandana” is his first-ever RIAA Gold certification, underlining his growing impact beyond Nigeria.
Originally released in July 2022 on Fireboy’s Playboy album, “Bandana” has become a signature collaboration. In Nigeria, it was already huge, it dominated charts and became one of the most streamed songs in the country.
This U.S. gold certification is more than just a personal win for both artists. It’s a win for Afrobeats, proving once again that the genre isn’t just a regional sound but a global force. The fact that a song rooted in Nigerian street energy and melodic vulnerability can achieve that in the U.S. speaks to how far the culture has come and where it’s going.
For Fireboy and Asake, the milestone feels like validation. For the industry, it’s a reminder: Afrobeats is not just trending, it’s building legacy.
