In a recent interview with British GQ, Skepta revealed that the albumโs title is deeply personal, inspired by a saying from his mother: โIn this life, we have to work hard, so one day, we’ll eat with fork and knife.โ He explained that the record explores his immigrant heritage, the tension between his home life and his public persona, and the emotional complexities of success.
During the conversation, he also addressed industry gatekeeping, bluntly rejecting the idea that older figures still control who makes it in rap. โThere ainโt no gatekeepersโฆ Whoever thinks theyโre a gatekeeper needs to look again at that gate,โ he said.
The GQ profile provided fresh insight into the albumโs sound. One of the songs he previewed, โDeadlinesโ, touches on his immigrant roots, self-expectation, and the cost of ambition. He described the album as a โliberating album, of immigrant trauma that was transformed into hyperfocus and success.โ
Besides the music, Skepta is also focusing on his fashion brand, MAINS, which he co-founded. He continues to run it alongside his creative partner, blending his artistic identity with design.
The confirmation of Fork & Knife has reignited excitement in the grime and UK rap scenes. For many, this album represents not just a comeback, but a deeply introspective chapter in Skeptaโs career rooted in personal history, cultural identity, and creative evolution. Fans are already speculating about collaborators, track list, and how this project will compare to his earlier work.
