British electronic group Clean Bandit are teaming up with Nigerian Afrobeats star Omah Lay and American singer-songwriter Chlöe Bailey for a new single titled “Company.”
The collaboration is scheduled for release this Friday, September 18, bringing together three artists from distinctly different musical backgrounds for what is shaping up to be a major global pop and Afrobeats crossover.
Clean Bandit announced the collaboration on social media, sharing the title and release date while teasing the pairing of the British group with Omah Lay and Chlöe.
The announcement has already generated interest among fans, particularly because of the unexpected combination of artists. Clean Bandit are known for blending electronic and dance music with pop songwriting, while Omah Lay has built an international reputation around his soulful, introspective approach to Afrobeats. Chlöe, meanwhile, brings her distinctive R&B-influenced vocal style to the collaboration.
“Company” is expected to explore the space between Clean Bandit’s electronic-pop production and the vocal styles of Omah Lay and Chlöe. The track has been broadly described as a Pop/Afrobeats collaboration, although further details about its production and lyrical theme have yet to be revealed.
For Omah Lay, the release adds another international collaboration to an increasingly global catalogue. The Nigerian singer has continued to expand his reach beyond Afrobeats, working with artists from different markets while maintaining the emotional and melodic qualities that have become central to his sound.
His latest album, Clarity of Mind, has also continued to perform strongly on streaming platforms, recently surpassing 400 million Spotify streams.
Clean Bandit, meanwhile, have a long history of international collaborations, having worked with artists including Zara Larsson, Demi Lovato, Sean Paul, Mabel, Anne-Marie and David Guetta. Their ability to combine electronic production with different vocal styles has helped establish them as one of Britain’s most successful crossover groups.
With Omah Lay and Chlöe joining them on “Company,” the new single could become another example of the increasingly blurred lines between Afrobeats, pop, electronic music and contemporary R&B.
