Nigerian singer Victony and producer Tempoe have added another international milestone to their growing list of achievements, as their hit single “Soweto” has officially been certified Gold in France.
The certification makes “Soweto” the duo’s first song to achieve Gold status in France, further demonstrating the song’s enduring impact beyond Nigeria and across international markets.
Another international milestone for “Soweto”
Originally released in 2022, “Soweto” quickly became one of Victony’s breakthrough records. Produced by Tempoe, the song became a major hit across Africa and gained significant traction on social media, particularly through TikTok.
The track later received multiple remixes, including the widely successful version featuring Rema and Don Toliver, which helped introduce the record to an even wider international audience.
The song has since accumulated hundreds of millions of streams across digital platforms, with the remix currently exceeding 287 million Spotify streams.
A growing list of certifications
The French Gold certification adds to an impressive international run for “Soweto.”
The song has previously earned Gold certifications in the United States and United Kingdom, as well as Gold status in Spain, while the Nigerian edition has reached 3× Platinum according to TurnTable’s certification records.
In the United States, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified “Soweto” Gold in September 2025, marking another significant milestone for both Victony and Tempoe.
Tempoe’s production continues to travel globally
The latest certification is also another major achievement for Tempoe, who has established himself as one of Nigeria’s most successful contemporary producers.
Beyond “Soweto,” Tempoe has production credits on major Afrobeats records including CKay’s “Love Nwantiti,” Omah Lay’s “Soso” and “Godly,” and Joeboy’s “Door” and “Sip (Alcohol).”
His work on “Soweto” helped create one of Victony’s defining records and contributed to the producer’s growing catalogue of internationally certified songs.
