Nigerian producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist Rotimikeys took centre stage at the 2026 World Music Day celebration in Lagos, headlining the annual music festival alongside some of Nigeria’s most respected contemporary acts, including Made Kuti, Johnny Drille and The Cavemen.
The celebration, organised by Make Music Lagos in partnership with Alliance Française de Lagos and supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria, took place on June 21, marking World Music Day.
Rotimikeys Steps Into the Spotlight
The performance represented an important moment in Rotimikeys’ career.
While he has spent years working behind the scenes as a producer, arranger, music director and multi-instrumentalist, his appearance at World Music Day highlighted his evolution as an artist in his own right.
Rotimikeys has worked with several prominent Nigerian acts over the years, including Yemi Alade, Simi, Waje, Omawumi, Asa, Flavour, Cobhams Asuquo and Nathaniel Bassey, building a reputation for creating and shaping complete musical experiences.

The event attracted thousands of music lovers and formed part of the wider global Fête de la Musique, a celebration held annually in more than 1,000 cities across over 120 countries.
Make Music Lagos Continues Its Mission
Make Music Lagos has grown into one of Nigeria’s prominent platforms for live music, artist development and cultural exchange.
The 2026 programme included a Songwriters’ Workshop, a Music Business Conference, an Album Listening Party and Catalogue Review Sessions, before culminating in the June 21 Shutdown Concert.
The initiative also featured the grand finale of its Battle of the Bands competition, designed to identify and develop emerging live-performing talent.

For Rotimikeys, the appearance represents the latest step in a career that has traditionally seen him operate behind the scenes.
