Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed counterclaims against music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, escalating their long-running legal battle and continuing to deny Jones’ allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.
The new filing was submitted in response to Jones’ $30 million lawsuit, which was filed against Combs in 2024. Jones had accused the music mogul of sexual assault, drugging and coercion while he was working as a producer on Combs’ The Love Album: Off the Grid. Combs has denied the allegations.
In his counterclaims, Combs accuses Jones of defamation and theft, alleging that the producer improperly obtained private video footage and later provided or sold some of the material to Netflix for use in the documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning, produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
Combs’ legal team also disputes Jones’ account of events surrounding their work together, including allegations that Jones was instructed to recruit sex workers. According to the new filing, Combs maintains that Jones acted independently and voluntarily used drugs and hired sex workers, directly challenging key elements of Jones’ original allegations.
The counterclaims also accuse Jones of making defamatory statements about Combs in connection with the Netflix documentary. Combs is seeking damages and reportedly wants Jones to return the disputed footage and destroy any remaining copies.
Jones originally filed his lawsuit in February 2024, alleging that Combs subjected him to sexual misconduct while he worked on The Love Album. In March 2025, a federal judge dismissed several portions of Jones’ case but allowed a number of claims, including sexual-assault-related claims, to continue.
The latest development therefore does not represent a finding that either side’s allegations are true. Combs’ accusations against Jones are claims contained in a counter-lawsuit, just as Jones’ accusations against Combs remain allegations being contested in court.
The dispute has now expanded beyond the original sexual-assault allegations to include questions surrounding private footage, the Netflix documentary and alleged defamation, adding another layer to one of the most closely watched legal battles involving a major figure in hip-hop.
As the case continues, both sides are expected to present further arguments and evidence before the court.
