Wiz Khalifa has been placed on Romania’s national wanted persons list after failing to report for a nine-month prison sentence related to a drug possession case stemming from a 2024 festival appearance in the country.  

The rapper, born Wiz Khalifa, was convicted after Romanian authorities alleged he smoked cannabis on stage during the 2024 Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești and was later found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis.  

Initially, a lower court issued the rapper a criminal fine. However, prosecutors appealed the ruling, and the Constanța Court of Appeal replaced the fine with a nine-month prison sentence in December 2025. Subsequent appeals were rejected, making the conviction final earlier this month.  

Following the final ruling, Romanian authorities issued an enforcement warrant after Khalifa reportedly failed to present himself to serve the sentence. As a result, his name now appears on the Romanian Police’s wanted list.  

The development has sparked widespread discussion within the music industry and among fans, particularly given the varying legal status of cannabis around the world. While cannabis laws have been relaxed in some countries and U.S. states, Romania maintains strict penalties for possession and public use.  

It remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will pursue international enforcement measures or seek extradition. Neither Wiz Khalifa nor his representatives have publicly commented on the latest development at the time of writing.  

The case marks one of the most unusual legal situations involving a major American rapper in recent years, placing Khalifa at the center of an international dispute over drug laws and criminal enforcement.
