Footballโ€™s biggest stage is getting a Super Bowl-style spectacle.

Shakira, Madonna and BTS have officially been announced as headliners for the first-ever halftime show at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. ย

A Historic First for FIFA

This marks the first time FIFA will stage a dedicated halftime concert during a World Cup final, borrowing heavily from the entertainment format made famous by the Super Bowl. ย

The show will reportedly be curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay in partnership with Global Citizen. ย

Why These Artists Make Sense

Shakira

Shakira already has deep World Cup history through:

  • โ€œWaka Wakaโ€ (2010)
  • multiple football-related performances
  • and her newly announced World Cup song โ€œDai Daiโ€ featuring Burna Boy. ย

Madonna

Madonna brings:

  • iconic stadium-performance experience
  • global pop legacy
  • and prior halftime-show history from the NFL Super Bowl. ย

BTS

BTS gives FIFA:

  • enormous Gen Z reach
  • massive global fandom
  • and one of the strongest international fan mobilizations in music culture today. ย

Football & Entertainment Are Merging Faster

FIFA has increasingly leaned into entertainment-driven spectacle, especially after:

  • the 2024 Copa Amรฉrica halftime show featuring Shakira
  • Club World Cup entertainment expansions
  • and larger celebrity integrations across tournaments. ย

The organization reportedly hopes the performance will help raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. ย

A Truly Global Lineup

The lineup combines:

  • Latin pop
  • K-pop
  • classic global pop
  • and football culture itself.

FIFA appears to be positioning the 2026 final not just as a sporting event, but as one of the worldโ€™s biggest entertainment broadcasts.

Shakira. Madonna. BTS. One World Cup final stage.

FIFA is turning the 2026 World Cup final into a full-scale global pop culture event and music is now becoming as central to the spectacle as football itself.
