Tyler Perry is pushing back forcefully against fresh sexual assault allegations, with his legal team dismissing the lawsuit as nothing more than a calculated attempt at a payout.
In the wake of news of a new civil suit filed against the media mogul, his attorney has issued a sharp response that reframes the accusations and questions the motives behind them.
In a statement shared with Variety, Perry’s lawyer Alex Spiro addressed the lawsuit brought by actor Mario Rodriguez, calling it a recycled and opportunistic claim.
“Having recently failed in another matter against Mr. Perry, the very same lawyer has now made yet another demand from more than a decade ago which will also be a failed money grab.”
The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Rodriguez experienced unwanted sexual advances from Perry over a period of several years, including an incident said to have taken place at the superstar’s home.
Rodriguez is seeking at least $77 million in damages and has also named Lionsgate as a defendant, accusing the studio of turning a blind eye.
The rebuttal from Spiro also referenced a separate lawsuit filed earlier this year by actor Derek Dixon, suggesting a pattern of claims being pursued by the same legal team. Perry has not personally commented beyond his attorney’s statement.
